Ok so my cousin's computer which i built for them a while back, there USB ports dont work. They dont detect anything. I didn't test the ports at all and they finally had a use of USB port and when they used it, it didn't detect. It didnt detect with my stuff either. my printer cables, mouse, digi camera.

the board has 2 ports on it in the rear and 2 ports in the front. none of them worked.

where might be the issue. everything else works prefectly fine.

I'm considering putting a PCI USB 2.0 4 port card in the system and hoping that those 4 ports will work since they are going to run off PCI's am i right for believeing this or not.

what are my chances.

What brand & model of motherboard is it, and it sounds like the case has two front USB ports? What brand & model of case?

While we're at it, does the Device Manager show the USB controllers ok, or with yellow !?

i couldn't find in the device manager the USB controllers. I'll take another peak at it because i only have 1 set of stuff i need to turn off this computer and plug all my crap into the other computer to test it.

Its an Iwillkk266 board with a 1.2ghz i think..

I got a generic $50 case at frys. It came with 4 USB ports in the front. but the mobo only supported 2. and i'm pretty sure i connected the fronts correctly. I tested all the USB ports. all 4 in the front just in case even tho only 2 should work and the 2 rears.

Check in the motherboard's BIOS to ensure that USB is enabled. I'll see if I can dredge up a KK266 manual to confirm the USB pinout... *wishes for broadband right about now*

The generic case, does its USB cable terminate in one solid plug, or a bunch of separate one-wire pluglets?

yea i pined it out alrites. Now i'ma gonna hop on the computer and check on the BIOS. and will post back in a few.
