It seems like the key here for the future is a perfect level of US involvement. Too much and many Iraqis will feel as if they are being exploited or controlled by just another (less brutal) autocrat. Too little and they will feel as if they were left out to dry (think 1991). The same goes for the international community: too much US involvement (particularly US enterprising mostly re: oil) and we'll hear cries of nation-building and neo-Colonialism, too little involvement and the backlash will be about the US's seemed hypocrisy of "liberating the Iraq people" but then leaving them with no pedastal to rebuild their nation.

The world is watching, I just hope we don't screw it up.
