Someone over at 3dfx gamers was saying that the reason the 6K did so bad at VE was because they didn't have texture compression enabled. That could be why it seemed so bad.

yeah, that was me that posted that.

:)

R0b0 (forgot my login for RoboTECH, and someone else had Robo)

I sent the author an email, and he said that he didn't have time to enable TC, and that it was disabled in the q3config.cfg

"Compression was set to 0 in the q3aconfig.cfg file. Unfortunately, we didn't have time to run benchmarks with compression enabled."

that was his exact email response.

Yea I saw that, I thought "Hey I wonder if that's Robotech" but then I didn't see it posted here so I figured it wasn't.

What sort of a BS response is that? How long does it take to type "r_ext_compress_textures 1" to turn it on? Why did they turn it off in the first place?

i have no idea why he didn't do it dude

and dynamic lighting doesn't do anywhere NEAR as much to (or for) a 5500 as TC does.

interestingly enouhg, the 6000 WAS rendering with trilinear filtering. Quantum3d made that adjustment to the hardware.

also, these drivers were based off the ORIGINAL 3dfx drivers (the ones where the 5500 was barely faster than a DDr or MX)

soooo....once we get some information, we realize that the 6000 was as fast with TC off as the Ultra was with it on.

not bad after all, especially considering the age of the drivers.

Well I would scream "BIAS!" but the site is called Voodooextreme, so I'm confused.

Well it really doesn't matter what it gets. It's not a consumer solution and most people couldn't really run it and/or afford it.

voodoo extreme didn't do the review

it was just "some guy"

he originally was going to send it to Ars Technica, but something happened and he dropped it on Billy's doorstep.
