No Taxation without representation?

Well I am in the process of doing my taxes for 2008 and it seems that I get all my money back from the FEDs but it seems i have to pay the state even more money.

The thing is I was 17 in the year 2008, up until December 27th of that year. Does that not mean I got taxed without being represented in my state government?

In my opinion this seems to go against what this country was founded on.

Can anyone explain to me why and how they tax me without representation?

Ok, I dont want to sound like I am complaining or anything, I just want to know a little bit more on how the system works.

Doesnt my father also pay taxes to the FEDs and State? My father also displays views that I do not believe in so does that mean I am SOL?

Again, Im not trying to sound like an A**.

Yes, you are SOL as long as you are/were a minor. After you become legally an adult, you are allowed to vote, and therefore you can represent your own interests.

Yeeeaah.... turns out that a slogan coined in the mid eighteenth century in colonial America doesn't work well as binding protection against taxation in modern times.

The American bitch of taxation without representation that helped form this country does not apply to you. At the time, no American of any age had any say at all on tax policy.

Presumable you are now of voting age and can help form either the majority or minority domestic legislature that in turn sets tax policy at the Local, State, and Federal level.

And no you do not have a legitimate bitch if you forgot to be in the majority party that actually sets current tax policy. You had your say at the ballot box, and your side lost. Suck it in and get over it, and hope next election your side fares better.

Meanwhile you can cry your heart out on this forum about tax policy, just do not try to use phony arguments like taxation without representation that do not apply to you in any way.

"No taxation without representation" is not a codified feature of our taxation system, so throw that idea out and your thread ceases to have a purpose.

"No taxation without representation" is an ideal; in practice there are many people who have to pay taxes but aren't allowed to vote.

Public schools have failed you.

If you're complaining now, just wait until you're into your peak earning years and the government is taking a far larger slice of your earnings.

I'm more concerned about the representation in our government, without taxation.

Also, your political views will mature greatly between now and the next time you vote.
I think we shouldn't be allowed to vote until 21.

Just use Lipton, that way you won't feel so bad.

Anyone who knows anything about tea knows that the standard-fare lipton is barely worth its weight in dirt.
