So a friend of mine gave me an emachines laptop & I reformatted it. But now after installing all the drivers I can't use the wireless. It is saying no supported wireless adapters available in the system. I downloaded the drivers that the emachines tech told me to, but it is still not working. And when i go to the device manager there is no option for network devices. any ideas?

and any way to find out what wireless card is in my computer?

Two things come to mind.

1. BIOS - did anything get changed?

2. On/Off switch - on the last few Laptops I've had, there's been either a button or a switch to turn the wireless card on/off. If you have something like that on yours, that's most likely the problem. The Computer won't see the adapter regardless of whether the drivers are installed or not - it has to be turned on.

no on/off switch... just the function button which i've checked. and nothing has changed in the bios. i have tried removing & reinstalling the driver, but then i get a few different messages.. the one i said before and "driver not installed" Im not sure if they directed me to the correct driver or not, but im not sure how to check what wireless card is installed in my system...

Have you tried the "Scan for new Hardware" or "Install new Hardware" options?

I would think Windows would auto-detect it, but sometimes it doesn't.

Hardware Device Manager most likely won't tell what the card is, but you can check to be certain.

Only other option I can think of is if you have the Make/Model, you can dig around the Internet for Drivers or info/card make.

Yeah I tried that also. It did not auto-detect, but i found a list of them manually, but it was giving me even more messages (Code 10)

Hmmm, you may have to manually install and test each driver in the list - not exactly a fun time :(

I don't know about emachine bios, but in the dell laptop bios it will report if you have a wireless adapter installed and if it is a Dell or Intel..which are the two basic ones they offer.
