World Series = why

that is ridiculous...

how did they know last year what nights the world series would be played when they drew up the schedule...

there is no way they would know if a team swept its series or if it was drawn out to a full 5 or 7 game series...

unless they are rigged.....hey wait minute....maybe i can borrow some tin foil from one of the resident CT's here...:)

It's game 2, it's been known for a while..

I seriously doubt they knew earlier this year when the football TV schedules were created...

when is the earliest they would have known when the series started??? when the NLCS and ALCS series were being played? which was about 2 or 3 weeks ago?

They knew months and months ago. The baseball schedules are set in the winter. You can figure out very easily when the playoffs will be played.

The NFL didn't schedule a game tonight because they knew the World Series would be played tonight. That decision was made months ago.

But how do you know they play on this exact date?

They might have a travel day, like tomorrow, which is when Monday Night Football is on.... wait... oh jeez this is getting kind of scary....

gimme a break dude...they DID NOT KNOW months ago that game 2 would be played on Sunday, October 22, 2006 at 8 pm Eastern.

they didn't even know that until the League Championship series started...

They don't finalize the schedule until the last playoff series is finished...they can estimate all day long of what possible dates that future games may occur, but to lose the revenue from broadcasting a football game because a World Series game MIGHT POSSIBLY be played that night is asinine...

Unfortunately they do. I'm amazed at how many make a big deal about seeing a game when they're on a cruise! If they miss it that much stay the hell home and watch it! :|

I DL'd a copy of the NFL schedule right after they released it this summer. I just checked it again. The NFL didn't have a game scheduled for Sunday night this week.

It's simple. Today is game 2 after one of the LCSs went to seven games. If both LCSs had been sweeps, today would be game 4. Either way, there would be a WS game on tonight.

It's pretty easy to figure out when the World Series is going to be played. Remember, the Tigers were off for a week before the series started. It was starting on October 21st, whether the Cardinals / Mets series went to seven games or not.

If you think that it was just dumb luck that ESPN didn't schedule a Sunday night football game for the night of Sunday, October 21st then you are nuts.

You are right.. It is asinine to think that ESPN didn't schudule a game because they thought a game might be played. That's because they KNEW it would be played.

These are decisions that are made MONTHS and MONTHS ahead of time. Why is that so hard to come to terms with?

If the world series was scheduled to start at October 21st, then everything makes sense. I thought it just happened to start at the 21st because of the 7 game series between the Mets/Cards.

So am I correct in saying that if both series had been a sweep, then both teams would have waited until the 21st to play the WS?

Considering that the Tigers finished up on Saturday, the 14th, and the NLCS could have ended as soon as the 17th (in five games), I would say yes.

Again, I wasn't there when the decisions were made, but it pretty obvious to me that ESPN knew that October 21st wasn't a day to broadcast an NFL game at 8PM. In the middle of football season.. Coincidence?

They know at the start of the season when the world series is being played.

They don't know what teams/locations, but they know the dates.

The World Series will always be played when they can potentially get the highest audience. Sunday is one of those days. They would not schedule a travel day on a Sunday.
