No startup

This system is only about a month old, but now I've run into a problem. Yesterday, I attempted to shut down the system and the shutdown progressed for a few seconds then stopped. I had to manually shut down the machine. Today, pressing the power button does nothing. The power light comes on but I get no POST. I suspect the mobo may be bad. Could someone confirm this for me?

Aaah, ASUS RMA hell, here I come...

AMD Barton 3200+
ASUS A7N8X-E Mobo
2x 512 MB Kingston PC3200 DDR
GeForce FX 5700 Ultra

Could be CPU as well. Pull everything (memory, video etc) until it's just the CPU in there. Try again and see if you can at least get it to beep code.

If it comes to replacing and trying out components -
First thing is a quality PSU.

A dodgy one can give the same problems as you have.
And, yeah -
If you have more than 1 stick ram, test them both [one at a time in the machine]
Unattach all non necessary stuff - cd/floppy/sound/modem etc etc
Mainly - all you need is
vga/ram/cpu/hdd.

If that doesn't work, take out ram. see if system beeps. If it does, at least the mobo goes past the checking for ram stage.
Try the same with VGA card.
get a cheapie, or borrow one from a friend - nice and easy to swap out.

Try the same with a hdd.
Its all trial and error i'm afraid,

When you sort it out, please post the solution - we all need to know why!!!!!
