My friend leaves his computer on all day and night. It is a custom built computer that was put together with a $400 budget off newegg. I dont have exact specs but this is all i recall. It will be here this weekend for me to attempt to fix.

3200+
1gb ddr (1 stick )
40gb used HD off compaq computer
7300nvivda
MSI board of some sort with ATI On-board

He told and i went to see it as well, your typical it ran perfect yesterday story and now its dead. I turn it on it loads bios goes to ATI screen and hangs there gives me a debug flaut in black. 0000003, i reboot it and it does the same thing over and over again. We leave it be cool off i guess and then 4 hours later, i turn it on and it boots up xp like normal once xp was completely booted i got the blue screen of death and it auto reboots and then takes me to debug screen. I assume its a corrupt HD so then i attempt to reformat XP and before i was able to hit "F8" to agree the system hangs there. And we go thru the cycle again. I was able to get into the bios one time and saw the CPU was at 12x degrees. then i noticed he doesn't have any case fans and just a heatsink for his video card. only fan is on his CPU.

Did he fry everything pretty much ? How would one go about testing this? He is giving me $200 to spent in parts and 1 week to fix it or he is going to just buy a new one.

Check to see if the cpu fan is spinning, but I bet the video card fried from poor air flow.

Replace the hdd. It's the culprit. Or if you want download a hdd diagnostic software and test the hdd. If no problem was found, then zero the hdd and try again.

^ the HD was my orginal thoughts since it was most likely the old part in the whole build and the bottle neck of his computer overall. I will get another HD in there, but it just bothered me that the CPU temp was that high. I know that isn't normal.

It sounds crazy but, put your hard drive in the freezer for a half hour and try it. I've heard this works to give you enough time to get your programs off it and if it stops working after it warms up, it is the hard drive.

i did the freezer with a video card once. Just called him to do that.

i stated above what happened. it sat for 2 hours and went to reformat and it booted up xp cd and the screen where you hit F8 to agree to the terms shows up it, i hit it and it froze on the next screen, i thought it was loading so we gave it 10 mins and it didn't do crap. i knew this was more then enough and rebooted the comp and then tried again this time it got stuck really early in the scanning computer stages.

why is the CPU at 127º ? and it wasn't a bad sensor it was dam hot when i checked it i thought dust might be in it but it wasn't.
