Hello, I recently installed Divx5, Real One, and Quicktime. Now I have no sound in my .avi movie files. I've gotten rid of divx5 and installed 4.12, but that did not work. I uninstalled RealOne, but that did not work. I installed WMP7, but that did not work...

I'm lost - does anyone know what might be going on here?

Have you checked the expanded volume control settings (right click the speaker|open volume controls)? Perhaps the specific slider for the .AVI volume is muted.

If you recorded these files yourself, check the "properties" for the "recording" sliders as well to verify that the correct input is selected (right click the speaker|open volume controls|options|properties|recording).

Have you tired them on any other system to verify that there is audio present?

Good Luck

I did not record them myself, they worked on my previous system. On my new system I cannot remmeber them working at all. I've had this new system for perhaps 3weeks. In the last week I installed DivX and all those video players you see above.

I looked in the volume controls, and there is no slider for .avi....

volume, wavetable, wav-out, and CD-ROM are all unmuted.

MP401, Line-in and auxiliary are the only ones muted.

thx alot for your help!

:)

another thing I noticed is that it downloads the coded _every_ single time I open one of these AVIs

these AVIs were encoded using DIVX a long time ago, I wonder if I need to drop down to divx 3.11 (or whatever that version was)

try using wmp 6.4, it plays more movies better imo, also try other players, try using the play, bsplayer, and sasami2k, if it doesn't work on one of those you have another problem.

you might need an audiofilters codec
you can find them at doom9.org, or as others have said you could try installing the older codecs also such as 3.11
