No Sound w/ Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe using SPDIF

I tried hooking up my Asus mobo SPDIF ouput to my Denon receiver, trying to get Dolby Digital sound. But it doesn't work, I don't get any sound, even though I selected digital output in the nForce tray. Anybody have any ideas why?
