No sound via HDMI to TV Sager NP2740

Maybe it's a DRM issue. Linux has it's fair share of those. That might explain the video but no sound.

Thanks for the idea! The problem persists even if I play a cd, or flash content in FireFox. HDMI does show up as an option in Sound settings also. BTW it has never worked with 14.04 LTS and I am on 14.04.1 with all updates (freshly installed) Sound from the notebooks speakers works fine.

Thanks for the link. I installed ALSA mixer on U 12.04.5 LTS but still no sound, then found a bug report about Haswell .... the workaround is to put the computer to sleep, then awaken it then HDMI sound to my sony TV works great (but I still do not see any controls in ALSA mixer for it other than 3 check boxes IEC958)

Eventually I did a clean install of 14.01.1 LTS and updated the kernel to 3.16 .... to finally solve this. NOte I needed the kernel update due to an unrelated issue with crucial m500 SSD + trim.
