No Sound on K8S-MX new build

I just built a new system for a PVR application using the following components:

Asus K8S-MX mobo
Sempron 3100+
512 MB Corsair Platinum PC3200
120GB WD HDD
Windows XP Pro, SP2
All in an Antec Aria case, with front panel audio ports

I had it running under Fedora Core 4 Linux, then realized that Asus' Linux support sucks, so I installed XP Pro on it. Now the sound doesn't work period. I have the drivers installed and all the volumes up, and I know that my headphones work fine. I even updated the BIOS to the latest edition to see if that was an issue.

You know usually that you can hear a little crackling and popping when plugging in a speaker or headphones into a system that is powered up. I can't hear anything when plugging into the line out on the motherboard, or the front panel audio connection. However, I can plug it into the microphone plot and hear those distinctive noises. SO...I'm thinking that there must be a short in the jack, ergo, no power to the jack. What do you all think?
