No Sound on DVD's

I have 2 DVD-ROM drives, one is a DVD - RW DL and the other is like just a 16x DVD-Rom. For some reason when I watch DVD movies the sound wont work. I am using windows media player, is it possible that doesnt have software decoders? I have a Audigy 2 sound card, so that is supposed to have a DVD decoder on it that should solve my problem. I have the analog sound cable connected on one and it doesnt make a difference, do I need to attach another wire to my sound card?

Have you tried using whatever DVD player software came with one of the drives? Possibly something like WinDVD? I have had problems in the past with WMP where the DVD drive is setup properly (including the cable to the soundcard) but the playback doesn't work quite right.

You don't usually need the cables anymore these days. It's been a while since I owned a computer with audio cables from the CD or DVD drives. I usually just use the digital audio option where the audio is sent over the IDE cable.

Try using some other DVD player like arbytech mentioned. It should help you, else just check the speaker settings throgh the DVD player pane(stereo, quadro, 5.1 etc.) Let me know

I installed winDVD which came with my DVD-Rom and now it is working fine. I am guessing that drivers for decoding DVD sound just don't come with windows media. Thanks for the help guys.
