No sound in windows 2000

I recently installed a Nic and then all of a sudden I get no sound in windows 2k. I checked the drivers and as far as I know they are working properly. When I try to play a sound file with any program the seconds start moving but then it just stops as if it can't play the file. If I play a music CD the sound works perfectly.

Ok AT is there anything I left out that can help you help me solve this technical difficulty?

Are you sure it wasn't just a driver issue?

Sometimes the manufacturers update their drivers more often than you have hot dinners.

I'm possitive it wasn't a driver issue. Plus when I do the sound check on the card with its own program it tells me its a hardware problem.

I did have the latest drivers to make sure though and unistalled and reinstalled them like a million times before finally admitting its time for the card to go.
