No sound from Windows Media Player

I am running XP Pro SP2, with a Santa Cruz sound card. A few months ago WMP stopped producing sound when playing MPG/AVI. Other players (WinDVD, Real player, VLC) do play with sound.
The Santa Cruz applet seems fine. DXDIAG.EXE doesn't complain and produces sound as well.
May not be related - a video joining program joined 5 AVI files (with sound) that now are silent, even though each part had sound and played with sound. This is verified on another computer on the network.

Where could the WMP sound disconnect be located?

Sounds like WMP10 is muted. Check that.

BTW - double posting is a no-no. 🙂

Thanks to all replies.
I will try reinstalling codecs. However, the problem occurs with straight MPEG1 files as well, and the codec for that is built into WMP.

The mute button for WMP is not pressed. Is there another place to mute it?

What double posting? Did I ask this before?
