No sound from subwoofer

I have a 5.1 speaker setup, connected to a receiver that is connected to my x-fi using the multi channel input on the receiver (connected using 3 minijack-rca cables). For some reason, I am not getting any sound from the sub while playing games or listening to music. The sub does work when playing dvd's and in quake 4 if i turn off EAX. I cant seem to find anything in the creative audio console to change this. Does anyone know how I can get sound to come from the sub while playing games?

Thanks

Try to find the bass redirect option (in the X-Fi controls), you should be able to set a crossover frequency for infomation to go to the sub.

Sounds like the infamous X-fi sub/LFE output problem. Don't remember what the fix was, think it's to turn on the bass boost. Check Creative forums, there should be a 100 page thread on it from years back. Good luck.

Yeah, I know it works if you have the settings right, but not having one myself and thus never doing it, I find it hard to remember the procedure 😛

i'm on X-fi, and not having any problem with the SubW.

However with all its cool new features, i find some of the new features rather... annoying and i turn most of them off.

specially the SVM (SVC ??) option forgot spelling, it does a good job alright, but sometimes it muffles some other sounds for some games

the virtual 3D thing is also annoying, i rather keep it off, it works great, but some games doesn't sound right with them on

everything else in this X-FI card is damn cool, way better than the Audigy 2 ZS 😀

Ya, the only thing I have turned on for my X-fi is the CMSS3d, and that's only for game mode. Other than that, I just use the default card. Hell, I don't even have the THX console installed 😛, this is cause my X-fi CD was screwy; it had bad sectors on the disc, and installed with a LOT of errors. Fixed it by slowing down drivespeed, but still kept install to a minimum to avoid any extra risk. Oh, and I think the LFE problem is only with 5.1 setups using the sub/center jack on the card. IIRC, I think you need the THX console to turn on the bass redirect/bass boost to fix the issue. Also, the X-fi should have 'corrected' the problem by addin 8 db (???) to the sub channel. Lucky I stuck with stereo with a receiver to do the redirecting🙂.

Thanks for the replys guys, I'll try the THX console(which I will have to install, now I have to find the CD 🙁 ).
