Here's my story of the day. I did a clean installation of windows XP Pro yesterday, then noticed that no sound is coming out of my speakers...so I checked the device manager...-->device working -->no irq conflicts... so I installed the newest drivers (11/2/2001, 3509.2.0.0)...and still no sound...then I uninstalled everything that has to do with sound blaster (including the hidden devices that XP conveniently hides from you..) and reboot to have XP detect and install the drivers again (then another reboot..) but I still don't have sound coming out of my speakers. I've tested the speakers on another computer and they're fine...so something freaky is going on here...
on a side note, you know how Windows play a "ding" sound whenever you adjust the volume by clicking on the "Volume icon" in task bar and sliding the volume level up and down? Well whenever I try that, my PC speaker gives off a sound..(it was a shocker cuz I haven't heard anything from the PC speakers since...DOS)
Has anyone had this at some point and got it fixed?? Or having I once again encountered the freakiest problems that doesn't make sense...this is definitely one wacky eXPerience...

Any help will be deeply appreciated!! Thanks.

Go to your control panel, then sounds and multimedia I think, then check to see what speakers you're going through, and if you have onboard sound, make sure you disable it in your BIOS or in Windows itself. Your soundcard may also be busted, but let's hope it isn't.

Thanks for your reply!!

Yah..I tried going through all the selections for different kinds of speakers...still no sound..

An update: I borrowed a headset from a friend (the one that has a microphone attached to the earpiece) and plug the microphone in...then I went to the Sound Recorder (in Accessories), and when I talk to the microphone, the spectrum goes up and down meaning that it's recording something from me...which means the microphone jack on the sound card is working...

but there's no sound when I play it back!!! ARGH!
