I just got my AMD system setup. MSI KT3-Ultra.
It has onboard sound. But guess what... I can't get it to work.
I installed the 4in1s and what ever else the drivers disk told me to... Little autoplay feature lists the drivers you need. But sound isn't one of them. So i tried searching for new hardware and adding the sound card. I tried running the setup.exe from the drivers disk. I went to their web site and got newest drivers ran that. No luck So I went to viaarena.com and got audio drivers from there, they say I need to ENABLE the sound card in the BIOS. I went to double check and... yes it is enabled. I disabled it rebooted, then re-enabled it. rebooted. Stilll the drivers say it isn't enabled. Windows says there is no sound card present.
I have an optional sound dongle thingy. That i didn't install... thats my next step sticking that on to see if i get anythign then.

Anyone else have any ideas???

I had the exact same problem on a motherboard I gave my dad (MSI K7T Pro2A, for the record). I did pretty much all you did. After a few days of dead ends I just gave up and popped in a PCI sound card. I'm not saying that MSI boards are shoddily built, but, for what it's worth, you're not the only one to have encountered this.

I had a similar problem on 1 of my new systems. It turned out that I didn't install the (I think) AC 97 codex on the motherboard. It was hidden in set up somewhere on that disk. Sound worked from the DVD but that was it. Sorry not much help but I'm sure your missing something in the bios set up.

Well, you might want to start the troubleshooting by reading the manual for your motherboard, most of the time it will tell you exactly what you need to do.

The problem might be that there is a jumper as well that you need to enable to get the onboard sound working. Look for it in the manual. Also, I could be totally wrong, but maybe Plug and Play is not enabled in your BIOS.
