No sound from my CD ROM

This is the first time I've tried playing an audio CD on my computer in a while. I just got my minidisc recorder back from the repair shop (after ~3 months... ugh.), and wanted to record some of my CDs. All the cables are hooked up correctly, and nothing is 'muted', sound volumes are all the way up. The computer is getting no sound signal from the cd player whatsoever. It plays the songs fine in winamp, but there are zero audio levels.

1) check the cables..the one going into the sound card
or
2) try digital audio: go into device manager and go into your cd rom properties, should be a check box in there somewhere

Speaking of digital CD audio, it's not available for either of my CD-ROMs. I just checked, 'cause of hearing about it here. That sucks.

Yah, I'm annoyed to find out that there's only solder points on my Live for digital audio. My DVD has digital output... Maybe if I run two wires from the DVD to the solder points..

I have the connections on my Live!, but I don't have the right cable.

I wanted to try the IDE audio.

Hrmm, that sounds like a good idea for me though, do you have any links to where I can find out about how to do it?
