I built an HTPC with some older parts in a new SilverStone GD05 case. I bought an XFX Radeon 5670 video card for the HDMI output. I use an Onkyo received to switch video and audio. My Cablebox and BD work fine, but new HTPC has video, but no sound.

The MSI mobo, G31TM-P21, has HD audio that works great with speakers. When I go to the control panel to select HDMI as the preferred audio playback output it shows as an option, but will not let me set it. Instead it stays on the onboard HD option.

So, my question...do I need to disable the onboard audio in the BIOS and uninstall the software to get the HDMI audio playback to work? I thought I'd ask here in case someone knows, rather than experimenting with it.

I would check disabled devices. Sometimes two HDMI devices are shown, one for your TV and one for your receiver.

This morning I disabled the onboard audio in the BIOS and the HDMI issue was resolved. I didn't have to do anything after the system booted. The sound is excellent!
