No sound from front right channel on my Onkyo receiver.

I have an Onkyo TS-SR502 receiver that's about a year old. I have a set of 5.1 Fluance speakers hooked up to it, and they have been working fine for the past year.

However, I am suddenly experiencing a problem where I get very low sound volume from the front right speaker. All the other channels work fine, but I can't hear anything from the front right.

I did the speaker level calibration from the set up menu, and If I set the front right to +12 and turn up the volume I can finally hear sound, but it is still very low. I know that the front right speaker itself works fine because I tried hooking that speaker up to the front left channel output on the reciever and the volume level was fine. I also tried resetting the receiver by holding down the video button while powering the unit up, and that did not work either.

If it makes any difference the sound sources I've tested this with are (1) Level Calibration from the receiver's setup menu, (2) Optical in from Digital Cable receiver, and (3) optical in from XBox while playing DVD's. Sound is fine in all three cases, except for front right speaker.

Is there something I can do to solve this, or is there a problem with the unit that would require service?

Onkyo receivers have nothing to do with computer hardware.

It says general, not computer. :p

Giscardo, did you check your speaker wire? If you just changed the speakers and had the same right front wire attached, that could be one last thing to check.

Oh, btw, is this the Fluance SX-HTB set?

Yes, it's that SX-HTB set, and I have verified that it's not the wire. Posting in avsforum.com, thanks for the advice, a cool forum it looks like.

Alright.

I had the SX-HTB set before I got my current set.

What kind of sub did you get with it?

Sounds like your receiver is going to have to be serviced :(

I've had the set and receiver for a year, never got a sub. Neighbors at my last place complained about the SX-HTB alone... I am thinking of getting one though, what kind of sub are you using?

I like the front speakers from this set, they look and sound great. The center and rears are kind of small and weak though.

EDIT: Typo.

Yeah, the center was what made me want to get a new set.

The "5.1" comment made me think you had a sub already.

I first has a dayton 10" with the Fluance set, but later upgraded to SVS's lowest model, the PB10.

Well - maybe you better read ALL of the Anandtech parameters for this forum . .

Heh, alright. I haven't gone to the main forum page in quite a while so I haven't looked at the full description.

There's enough headphone/speakers questions in here that I take "general hardware" to be pretty broad.

I consider my receiver/speakers as my computer speakers, so I don't see the harm in asking this here.

I guess peripherals would be more appropriate, or off topic I guess (which seems to be where most threads like this are).

Great! Do your duty.

BTW - why do have such a hardon for Bose?
