I helped an individual that has one of these computers that has the sound integrated to the motherboard. The computer had been run without virus protection and was so corrupted we had to reformat the hard drive and reinstall winxp pro. After doing all this we can no longer get sound from the computer.

Windows knows that there is an issue and tries to install the multimedia function, but cannot find drivers for it.

I do not know the make of the motherboard.

I thought I would be smart and just install a cheap sound card, but apparently it caused alot of conflicts and would not install correctly.

I just need basic sound and not full blown 6.1 stuff.

Suggestions ???????

The motherboard shold be labeled with some sort of number or model number that will help you identify what motherboard it is or else the bios may list it too. Once you figure that out, downloading the driver should be all you need to do.

try to download EVEREST, and it will tell you what you need to know about the onboard sound chip.

you could try disabling on board sound in BIOS. but the driver for the onboard sound should be easily downloaded.
