No sound after reseating GPU

So, in the process of narrowing down the source of the coil whine that developed recently I uninstalled/reinstalled my video card. Since then I haven't been able to get my sound to work.

I tried reinstalling the onboard sound drivers and uninstalling the nvidia hd sound drivers, but no sound. In my audio devices it's showing the realtek audio as primary.

I'm not sure where else to troubleshoot this. Any ideas?

Go into bios and make sure your sound is selected for onboard and not ext case. Then make sure the audio case hd or ac97 cable is firmly connected to the mobo.

did you happen to hit a trace on your motherboard?

the audio section is right in front of the pci slots.

I checked and didn't see anything that looked different. Not really sure what to look for though.

It's primary in the bios and I don't have the case audio plugged in because I have my speakers connected to the jack on the mobo.

is this a realtek audio setup, if so this has happened to me, go into the realtek audio settings and make sure that the "green" plug is set to out.

Additionally right click on your sound icon in the task bar click on "playback devices" and make sure your speaker output is selected and not hdmi or something else.

What motherboard?

Gigabyte P67A-UD3-B3

It is. I've had that issue too so that was on of the first things I checked. All the settings should be good to go.

If you've dont all of that, i'm assuming you've deleted the sound drivers and uninstalled the sound device in "device manager" restarted pc and reinstalled.

If after doing all that try booting in ubuntu live CD and seeing if sound works in that, if so then its def a windows issue, if not then its a hardware issue and most likely a fried chip or a bios setting.

Talking about Bios, have you tried setting it to default settings.

Lastly if all else fails i'd take out the cmos chip and/or if you mobo has it, reset the cmos dip switch plug.

The only real BIOS option is the Azalia Codec, and it should be set to auto.

If it is, and still no sound, make sure you are checking the simple things like speakers on, testing with other things such as headphones or additional features, checking Windows Volume Mixer and make sure nothing is muted.

Also a good idea to check in device manager for anything that is showing errors. If there is a software problem, the event viewer may also be helpful here.
