dumb question: did you test the headphones in a different device to make sure they aren't the problem?

Dumb reply. I lost sound after updating my vid drivers. Had to update audio drivers too, is there a newer version available? Try DXdiag to check for problem.

this has happened many times b4 to me... especially when i installed a x800 pro in a nother rigi found that it worked if you used the headphone jack in the speaker after updating codecs as well.

Can you explain that a clearer? I dont understand what you mean. I checked the headphones in an mp3 player and they arent the problem. Of course, windows update doesnt work, so i cant rely on microsoft for help unless i want to pay 35 dollars. The headphones are pluged into the green speaker port in the rear of the computer and not in the front.

I hear everything good on the left. Still no normal sound on the right, but i can hear faint system sounds and buzzing only on the right side. Like when i move and icon or something you can hear a very faint "bzzzd."

Edit: I just reinstalled the dimension 8400 drivers off the dell website, and still no sound on the right channel
