NO SIGNAL TO MONITOR

My bro just gave me an ASUS A7N8X MOBO, 2 128Mb DIMM's, and an ATI AGP. I put it all together along with some of my current stuff ( eg. Monitor,HDD, etc. ) When I turned it on everything seemed to work until I heard a beep from the monitor and the light on the monitor turned orange from green ( this means no signal right?) assuming that the MOBO is ok and the AGP card is ok, what other reasons could there be for this to happen? I spent a lot of time trying to figure this out, so I would appreciate any help from you guy's. thanks in advance bro's

The LED turning from orange to green means the monitor is receiving video signal, not the other way around. You can prove this to yourself by turning on the monitor with the CPU off. It should show orange (no signal).

I don't know if it will help, but try two things:

1. Power down, and re-insert your AGP card.

2. Check the CMOS to see if AGP is your default setting. If it is set for PCI, change it.

More if I think of it. Meanwhile, good luck. :)

Also, try unplugging any other PCI cards and almost anything else you don't need for a basic bootup to see if something has a conflict with your vid card.

thank's

Also i forgot to mention that
1) I tried with 2 other video cards that i know works
2) i tried to reset the CMOS by moving the jumper pin momentarily and returning it again.
3) i dont know if i made things worse but I also removed the CMOS battery for 10 or so seconds then put it back.
4) I LLF the HDD ( had a boot sector virus ) at least that's what i was told
5) Cant check the CMOS there is nothing showing on the monitor

To rule out a problem with the monitor, if possible, try the monitor on another machine and/or another monitor on your setup. If it works, it sounds like you have a motherboard problem.

Sorry man i keep on giving you incomplete information anyway tried 3 different monitors
and DAMN!!!! i was hoping i wouldnt have to buy a new MOBO. anyway i will try removing all the components on my other comp install it on this new MOBO and if it still does'nt work then it has to be the MOBO

also is there a way to know if the MOBO is busted?

Boot the computer with the motherboard not installed in the case. What power supply are you using?

Did you do a fresh install of windows after replacing the mobo?

Doesn't sound like it. I think you may be suffering from chipset driver problems. In other words, looks like you attached your old HD with the previous install of windows and are trying to boot from it. That HD w/h old vid card and motherboard drivers on it. Different drivers then what you need for the new vid card and mobo.

Yup. So it's (HDD) got nothing on it now. If so, it ain't the chipset problem I mentioned above.

What kinda of vid card are you trying? You mention ATI AGP, but more detail please.

If it's an old AGP 2X, it may not work with that mobo. I ran into that problem with a Shuttle AN35N-Ultra.

(sorry, upon re-reading I see now where you said you did a LLF)
