'no signal' on winXP boot

I had installed my Geforce FX 5200 ultra video card in the last few months on XP SP1 and recieved no problems initially. One day, about 2 months ago, my computer shut itself down. When I tried booting my system, I could see all my bios settings but my monitor displaed "no signal" on the screen and switched to a yellow light while CPU continued to run. The computer could boot in safe mode with a proper display so I determined something may have corrupted my display drivers. I installed the latest drivers from the NVIDIA site but with no luck (v. 71.89). The only drivers that do work are the "trigger" drivers available on the same site (v. 44.03) but the capabilities of the card were not implemented. I cannot play graphic intensive games, scrolling in opposing windows stall other runnoing windows (ie, while scrolling in adobe acrobat would cause skipping in a video player window). I also cannot change the color settings during video plaback settings.

Eventually, I installed a fresh copy of XP with SP2 without formating and it seemed to fix the problem but within 3 days the "no signal" message returned. I then formatted my Primary hard disk and installed XP sp2 again but this time the "no signal" msg cropped up on the first boot. I am back on the Nvidia Trigger drivers again but I cannot figure this out.

Please help.

My System environment:
Mobo: Biostar U8668-D
CPU: Intel Celeron 2.4 ghz
RAM: 256 mb DDR/333

Secondary HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1200GB IDE 7200

Hi nova2005,
from what you have posted so far it sounds like ..
a compatibility problem with the Nvidia drivers & your motherboard BIOS settings.
It's NOT all that unusual (ie. its a common problem) for the video card drivers (even the latest ones) to NOT PLAY NICE with the motherboards video drivers which "setup" the BIOS settings on the motherboard.
Go to the Biostar U8668-D motherboard manufacturers website & get their video drivers . Make sure you get the Win XP ones (they have 3 different Win OS video drivers- I checked) and install them.
Reboot & see what you get. If it solves the problem..then you know it's Nvidias drivers.
If the problem is not solved.. then.. try re-installing Nvidias drivers.
If that doesn't work.. contact Nvidia for more detailed info.
Hope this helps,
RGPHNX

If the problem persists, could you also tell us what power supply brand and model you have 🙂

mechBgon knows what he's talking about, power supplies are the root of a bunch of porblems these days, cause alot of people dont buy quality power supplies, or get stuck with crappy ones without even knowing it until it's too late.
