I was changing my CPU fan over the weekend and noticed about a centimeter of dust under it, so I decided to clean the case out. Reconnected everything, booted up, and got nothing on my monitor. The CPU and case fans we on, the HDD?s were spinning, my graphics card was lit up and its fan was spinning, but my monitor was getting no signal. I tried connecting the graphics card to the monitor via the VGA cable instead of DVI, just in case I damaged the DVI cable or port. Nothing. I also pulled out the graphics card and connected the monitor to the motherboard to try and use the onboard graphics. Nothing. (as an aside, if I was using the graphics card, then tried to switch to the onboard graphics, the system would know this, right? I wouldn?t have to first change anything in the system setup?). I also reconnected the graphics card and cables many times, but still no signal on the monitor.
So, what did I do? Perhaps I fried something on the mobo? I can?t figure out what else would have gone wrong. And everything that is running is obviously getting power, but that?s all I can tell with no monitor, so I don?t know if the system is actually booting or not.
Any and all ideas would help. If you need any more info, please let me know. Thanks!
