No sign of life....

Need help badly. I just purchased:

Lian Li PC-68USB case
Asus P4T-E motherboard
Antec PP412X power supply
Pentium 4 1.9GHz
(2) 256MB RDRAM
Asus 8200 T5 Deluxe
along with other misc hardware.

I have all the critical components installed and configured (this is my fifth system I built). When I went to test the system nothing happens. I mean nothing. Yes it is plugged in, the power LED on the motherboard is light. I took an ohm meter and tested the power switch and that is fine. So signs of life what so ever. Anybody have any suggestions as to where to look or what to test?

Thanks

It might seem kinda silly but make sure your mobo isn't touching any metal. Mine didn't start when I first put it together and it's cause I had a standoff in the wrong spot. I'm lucky it didn't fry or something...you could also try switching some of the RAM around in the slots, to see if that works.

Also, you could try taking everything out, except for the video card, processor, and one stick of RAM and at least see if you can get the comp to come up, then add it all in one piece at a time to try and isolate the problem.

Hmm...what else...check the jumpers on your IDE drives, make sure everything's set ok...I've seen comps that didn't wanna boot up cause of that...

I dunno if this'll help, just reciting some of the probs I've had before :)

Seeing as it's not the 1st PC you built, I'm going to assume all the connections are properly done (something I'm sure you've re-verified).. To me, it sounds like a dead CPU, especially since you don't hear anything happening and it SEEMS as if you ARE getting power from the PS.. Can you try that CPU on another machine..? If so, do it.. :)

Thanks for the help. I removed the power supply to test it in another system and it was fine. I connected it back up the new system and it still didn't work. In trying to trouble shoot the problem I used a screw driver to short across the power switch connector and nothing happened but when I shorted across the PWR and SMI Lead Ground the system can to life. All is well but the documentation appears to be wrong.

Thanks again.

I had a similar experience while building my last system. Plugged everything in, pushed the on switch and nothing happened. I checked out everything, I even replaced the psu, and ended up replacing the mother board which fixed the problem.
