No Set Affinity on XP Pro with P4 w/HT
#56709 - Sat Sep 20 2003 10:21 PM Edit Reply Quote

According to:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;810231&Product=winxp

If you have a P4 on XP with hyper threading it states "In Processors, you
can expect multiple processors to appear installed." and " In Computer, you
can expect the computer to be described as a multiprocessor PC"

Well in processors I do see 2 P4 CPU's but under computer I see it state
ACPI PC.

Has anyone experienced this? Is this normal?

The reason I looked into this was because I was looking for the option under
the processes tab in task manager for the option to use "Set Affinity" but
it is not there. HT is enabled in the BIOS I double checked!

When right clicking a process I see:
end process
end process tree
set priority

I just tried rebooting the system, going into the BIOS and disabling it then renabling it on another boot but that did nothing.

I just noticed that my CPU USAGE HISTORY screen in task manager is only one window and it should be TWO.
Damn - I wonder if I did something wrong during XP INSTALL??????

This is weird. Under processores in device manager it shows two P4 3ghz CPU's (logical obviously)
But nothing about MPS under computer, only that it is an ACPI PC.

Argh!

Any suggestions as to what is up? Thanks!

Your system should be set to ACPI Multiprocessor PC.

Did you have HT turned on when you installed XP? Otherwise you could try changing the HAL from the ACPI PC to ACPI Multiprocessor PC.
