No screen after fresh build and install of W2K

I'm rebuilding a neighbor's computer and have hit a snag. I am working on a Compaq Presario desktop. I ripped the guts out and have replaced it with a brand new MachSpeed Mini-ATX mobo, AMD XP 2000, and new memory. I kept the old PSU, AGP video card and 45GB hard drive. I installed everything correctly, and ran Win2k installationg. Formatted the disk, ran through the whole setup and everything seemed fine. Finally, when I was through, and attempted to run the new system, I get to the Win2k "loading" page. When it finished loading, I just get a blank screen. I would expect to see the "normal" user login screen but I get nothing. There is nothing that happens that would indicate to me that the installation did not go well. I'm running the BIOS with all factory defaults and have not really tweaked anything. Typically, when I do new builds like this, i get everything set up with defaults and then go tweak later.

I thought maybe the old HD was bad, so I went ahead and popped a brand stinking new hard drive in the machine, formatted, installed Win2k and got the EXACT same issue. Any ideas?

Is the power supply good?

I don't know if you mentioned it, but try ripping all the non-essentials out, just boot up with the vid card.

Also, if you can attempt some kind of safemode boot (dunno what that is in 2000)

Good luck

Just a thought, is Windows 2000 running the resolution of the display adapter too high/low for the monitor to support it? That'd be my first suggestion to check, and would be the easiest to check.

Try running it in Safe Mode to see if it comes up.
