For Anandtech?

First off, they've not really reviewed a single WP8.1 device.

Vivek gave a small review of the Lumia 521, but that's because it's what he is using.

Secondly, the Lumia 920 and 1020 are essentially the same device. There are some minor changes, like the switch from LCD to OLED and an extra GB of RAM but, otherwise, there are not any significant changes between the two to warrant a full-on review from anyone.

I would basically focus my review hunting to everything having to do with the camera. Like this:

It's not an Apple device. ;)

Unfortunately other brands kinda takes a back seat at Anandtech.

It does baffle me that products that more people are interested in get more attention than products fewer people are interested in. It feels like a conspiracy. :)

How about we just look at it another way. Apple fans are paying for the site and these forums. :p

+1 for hoping for a Lumia 1020 review from Anandtech. Nevermind it's a Windows phone, it's also got one of the most awesome, unique cameras in the business. I bet if it was an Android phone it would sell in the tens of millions!

Here's Paul Thurrot's pretty decent review (admittedly Windows-biased) of the 1020 on his Winsupersite:

http://winsupersite.com/windows-phone/nokia-lumia-1020-review

It would be nice for the 1020 to get the Anandtech treatment, though.
-----------

What I don't get is -- the Lumia 1020 seems right up Brian Klug's alley. He talks about smartphone camera optics all the time in the podcasts, you'd think this would be his bread and butter! Why haven't they rushed to review it?

Tweeted at Brian last week about it, he said he was working on it.

Think it's pretty clear that it is one of the top mobile cameras, only thing to truly work on for Nokia in the immediate future is shot-to-shot and startup times. Could probably use the 2GB a little better for buffering purposes in that regard (not that I know beans of the memory requirements or OS restrictions).

He also promised the full review of LG G2(after posting mini review) in a week or so. But it is about 3 weeks but still no full review of LG G2. The mini review is quite good though.

So far I've just seen a few flash pics from the 1020 here and there, and surprisingly they totally suck.

Nokia seems to have completely dropped the ball with photos using flash. Harsh incorrect skin tones.

Not that I ever recommend using on-cameraphone flash, but really, they're just horrible.

Hopefully for Nokia's sake these pictures aren't representative, but I've seen several like this now.

Anand and Brian did talk about the 1020 in today's podcast. Brian stated if he does a review on it will not be a phone review but instead a camera review. Microsoft is not taking windows phone seriously and thus it should not get any coverage, the lumina camera though is the best in the business, Brian loves it, and he would recommend the phone to people who only take pictures and texts, but for other things windows phone is still lacking and Microsoft simply does not care.

Commodus in the other thread says he has a 1020. He says overall it's good camera, but it does have a problem with selecting the right colour balance at times, and that even the older iPhone 5 is more consistent at selecting the right colour balance than the Lumia 1020.

This is what I've been looking for. It sure took GSMArena long enough to release their review though. How strange.

That conclusion from GSMArena is pretty sweet and sour. Paraphrase: "Take a long look from the top here, Nokia. For your time as a great mobile handset manufacturer is greatly nearing its close."

As I've read in other reviews, they say the camera is overall very good, but the shot-to-shot delay is terrible.

I haven't read the review but I figured that would be the case. Writing 41mp image to the phone's slow storage can't be that fast.

No point in reviewing it now with the 1520,2520, and 929 being announced next month along with GDR3

If that's how they've designed it, then they've failed miserably. I suspect that is NOT how they've designed it.

Standalone cameras are generally built with sufficiently sized buffers to compensate. The speed of the flash media doesn't come into play until the buffer is exhausted. I don't claim to be an engineer, but for a phone I would guess they might just use RAM.

It should be noted that on the iPhone 5S, it shoots 8 MP at 10 fps. In two seconds, that 160 Megapixels.

Alternatively, it may just be that the image processor just can't deal with 41 MP fast enough. If that's the case, that's also a design fail.
