No Remote Desktop with TrendNet wireless adapter?

geno

Lifer
I have a trendnet 423PI in one of my PCs which I would like to access via Remote Desktop. When I try to access it from the system I'm on now, I get a message stating the following, in more words or less :

"You cannot initiate a Remote Desktop Connection because the Windows logon software on the remote computer has been replaced by incompatible software
C:\windows\system32\wireless\wirelessgina.dll"

This is the DLL I believe the adapter uses for its wireless config utility, which I believe has to be running for the card to work (it mysteriously would not work using the Windows config utility, but when I installed Trendnet's software, it fired up and connected right away with the same settings)

Any ideas? I'd like to be able to use Remote Desktop if possible, but if I can't, I'll look into 3rd party software to get the job done.

Yeah, some of them replace the "gina" dll, which is needed by RDP to work correctly. Shame that situation happens. Have you tried UltraVNC instead? I used that to allow me to access my F@H rig remotely, because using RDP screwed with the video drivers and interrupted F@H. I didn't install the mirror drive (supposed to make it run faster), because I believe that it likewise messes with the video drivers.

Alternatively, you could install a different wireless adapter, one that didn't mess with gina.

Try to find clean drivers for the Wireless adapter (may be the chipset OEM have them).

If you do, uninstall the TrendNet Wireless Utility/Drivers combo and use the clean drivers and Windows WZC.

I'll try finding some "untainted" drivers and if that doesn't work, I'll give UVNC a try. Thanks for the help guys.
