When you are given this policy from a mom and pop store do you try to fight it?

I just had a customer who purchased an item from my kiosk on Saturday. She said it doesn't work. It did come from my kiosk but, I need a number on the receipt that I use to put back into the register. Otherwise it looks like I just put an item back in and refunded the money to myself. Without that number it's impossible to say that the money actually went back to the purchaser. She got really pissed that I told her that I could not do anything for her with a receipt. I mean it's common sense to keep a god damn receipt when you purchase something just in case it doesn't work.

Do you fight or do you just let it go? I mean right now I have five printed return policy papers that I'm going to put out in front of my kiosk. It's going to make my kiosk look stupid but if this is what I have to do to get the point across that the receipt is needed and after 72 hours of the sales date all sales are final, I guess I have to do it.

wow, i would've thought it would be stupid to need a receipt if you have an item, but after reading about refunding to yourself i actually understand why you need it now.

fight it! the customer just become defensive because she's at the losing end. I'm pretty sure if it were you manager who explains the same thing, she would have accepted the fact without any problem.

Only some customer has respect to the ppl at the kiosk. Be patient.

Not just that but a receipt is also proof that you purchased the item and did not steal it from another store or just pick it up off the shelf, walk up to the counter and go, "I would like to return this."

If you are not smart enough to keep the receipt, you do not deserve a refund. Maybe possibly an exchange, according to the value of the item and how generous you are feeling that day.

This reminds me of the guy I saw in Fry's the other day trying to return an open box of WindowsXP. He got really mad that they wouldn't take his open box software back for a refund...even though this policy is clearly stated on the back of his receipt and on multiple signs throughout the store. Let's just say that not too many people waiting in line were looking favorably upon this guy.

Some people can be totally unreasonable.

Seriously, I saw a guy trying to return some stereo equipment at Frys. Problem was, he had it for 6 months.
