no rear-channel sound with KK266 + WinXP

I suppose this isnt a winxp-exclusive problem since i've run into this problem with win2k as well. The problem is that no matter what i do, i cannot get "real" sound out of the rear channels on my KK266. Most of the KDM drivers out there will give me limited sound from the rear, but not full sound. What i mean by this is i can play windows media player and get some audio from the rear speakers, but system sounds still function only in the front.

Funny thing i noticed: winamp will only play using the "directsound" output plug in. The default "waveout" plug doesnt play anything in the rear speakers.

I'm sure there has to be a way to get FULL 4 speaker surround. I know on my old Live! card, the back speakers functioned exactly the same as the front, aside from positioning. Why the problem here? and how to fix it?

Note: Full sound seemed to have worked fine on a previous installation of XP, but i'm not about to reformat to try it again.

Ive tried using nearly every version of driver out there. Nothing seems to work. Am i missing anything?

Yes, i have checked the FAQ-- couldnt find anything new

Have you read through Here yet? Maybe it'll help you out as it states among other things that your only to use the Cmedia8738 drivers for WinXP. Perhaps the driver version is at fault?

yeah i've tried drivers version 630 (the newest one), 629, 627 and 625 i think. Nothing seems to work. Im goign to try the win2k drivers and see if that solves the problem. Before i had xp i did something to win2k to make it work, just can't remember what that was. And yes, 4 speaker quadraphonic sound is enabled in sound properties. I dont understand what this problem is though...
