Bah. You can't believe anything that comes out of these big companys' marketing rep's mouths. It may be the truth this time, but it just as well may not be. We won't know until E3.

VE said that Sony is pretty much laughing at Nintendo and MSFT. No way they can compete so they see no reason to drop the price.

<< oh well its not like they need a price reduction, people are still buying them at full price >>

That is so true, I wonder if it'll make best seller for three Christmas' in a row.

<< Damn them. I want one but it is not worth $300 to me. >>

for me $300 was worth it. the multitude of good games that i can buy make it worth the cost. even at $199, an xbox has only 3-4 games lined up for me to buy. gamecube has maybe 3-4 games also.

even after buying controllers and multitaps and memory cards and dvd remote and vertical stand, which all tacked onto the price of the PS2, i found it all worth it. i'm even gonna get the network adapter when its released and possibly the harddrive.

i'm quite faithful to evil empire #2 sony. maybe i'd buy an xbox just so evil empire #1 can lose money. heh

ps2 is worth it. Be glad you didn't have to pay in £. It was £370 over here with 2 games when it was first out!!!

Its business for them. I'm sure all of us out of the kindness of our hearts wouldn't drop the price if you could still sell it for $300 or whatever it sells for. They just want as much as they can get one for.

After reading all the marketing speak contained in that article I suspect that if the X Box starts moving a lot of units at the new price Sony will lower their price. All they are saying is that with their current sales level there is no reason to do it at this time.

PS2 just hit the 30 million unit mark. They aren't being pressured right away to lower their price because they are so far ahead. I'm sure by Xmas they will lower but they don't have to for the summer season.

I have a PS2 and I'm hoping that GameCube drops in price soon. I want it to be nice and cheap by the time the good games start coming out. I have no plans for an Xbox unless they did something amazing but I don't see that in their future.

Could buy one and several games right now. But I won't. I'm more than happy with my PC (still gotta finish Serious Sam: SE) and my Gamecube (just got Resident Evil, had never played it before, no PS; and I've still gotta finish Spider-Man).

I got a PS2 earlier this year, figured I couldn't wait for the price drop, and I'm thankful now that I didn't wait. X-box is still suck at $199, can't see myself ever buying one of them. The PS2 games aren't bad now, I just got GT3 for 20 bucks at Best Buy, Dave Mirra BMX 2 for 30 at Walmart.

I may pick up a GC for cheap when it gets lower for Uni in September. The xbox isn't looking good with the games that are out at the moment. Not enough to justify me buying it and me not being as much of a hardcore gamer:).

Might just buy a ps2. We have one but my bro whos 7 is on that 24/7. So I wouldn't be able to take that to Uni. And I will definately use the DVD function of the ps2. The games I like and I can just use the games I currently have:D

Don't forget that when Sony dropped the price on the Playstation 1, they had been quoted a month earlier stating that there would not be a price drop in the near future.

marketing types aren't going to say anything about a price cut until it actually happens and then when it does they'll spin it so that it looks like sony is doing you a favor. i won't get one until its $200, maybe even $150 (the price i got my psx 2 years after its release for)
