No power to my file server

Just out of the blue, I come home from work and my file server is off. I think I had shut it off over the weekend. I try to power it on, but get nothing. I had run some wiring behind it this weekend, so I checkt he cable and made sure the switch on the back was on, still no go.

So I opened it up and it is getting power, since the small red LED at the bottom of the board(DFI Lanparty 250GB)is lit. I believe this is alwasy on when the power to the machine is off, but correct me if I am wrong. I tested the PSU with a tester and it works fine. I reseated the ram, still nothing. Any other ideas?

Brand & model of PSU. How old is it? How cold did the room get while it was shut off?
If it is an old, lesser model that got cold, warm it up with a hair dryer set on low, aim it
into the PSU's intake. This will take about 10 minuets using a low setting. Now try booting
the comp. Sometimes old caps need to be warm to get going 😉 If this cures the issue, replace the PSU.
I had one that offer RAM problems because the 3.3V went wacky when ambients were < 17C.

When you tested the PS, did you test all of the rails? Did you check each of the cables and connectors?

Antec Smartpower 450 I believe.

No I just a little tester that plugs into the 20 pin power connector and it worked.

Dead PSU I would guess. I had a PSU go bad, and even though I had power, it still would not power up the PC. I'd get a spare PSU if possible, and see if it powers up

If it's out of warrenty, three years, open it up, pull back the wires on the output side,
find leaking/venting/bulging/tilting from blown bungs, Fuhjyyu capacitors...Betcha! 😀
Pre-heating it *might* have got it to work. View pics @ http://www.badcaps.net/Ident/
80+% of the bad PSUs on this board are Antec Smart or TruePower.

If it's in warrenty, RMA it. PM AntecCSR here or email Antec Fremont.

Might be the mobo, same thing happened to me and it was a dead dfi, which had worked perfectly for weeks beforehand

I don't know about your's, but my tester has connections for all of the connector styles coming from the PS. If your's doesn't, then try a DMM. It's more accurate anyway.

Yeah it probably is the PSU, I just realized there is a very high pitched sound coming from it. Its almost out of my hearing range, but I unplugged the PSU and after a couple seconds the sound goes away
