I'm putting together a new system but am not getting any power when I turn it on. The specs are listed below. The small green light is coming on when the power is connected, but nothing happens when I push the power switch on the case. The cpu and psu fans do not come on.

I tried a different psu in the system that is a 350 watt and the cpu fan would spin for a few seconds when the power cord is connected to the back of the psu. However, nothing happened when I tried to turn it on.

I took the board out of the case and tried it that way with no luck. I'm not getting any sounds at all from it when I try to turn it on.

I tried the psu in a AMD XP2400 machine and it was ok. Same for the memory. I used the xp machine to format the hard drive too.

If you have any suggestions, that would be great. I would appreciate it. Thanks.

The specs are:

Allied 400W PSU
Asus P4S800 Sis chipset
Intel P4 2.4 Hyper-Threading
Crucial PC3200 512 MB
Seagate 120 GB, 7200 RPM

A few possibilities:

1) Bad MB

2) Bad power switch on case

3) Incorrect attachment of power switch to header

The first one is he most obvious and toughest to nail down. The second one is easily tested with a multimeter or a simple circut (say, using a flashlight bulb, a battery and some wire). The third could result from poor documentation or a simple mix-up on your part. Hope this helps, good luck!
