Out of curiosity, what does one do w/o any power for that amount of time?
 
jesus christ i don't know what i'd do without power for 3 days. I mean i would just go out and play some ball or something, but that's hard to do in the snow. And snowball fights would get old after a day or so.

no man not snow ice ide rather have 3 feet of snow (like we did in 1993) than have 4 inches of ice

on the hill behind my house a 880 foot radio tower was crushed under the weight of 6 inches of ice

i can
its not a snow storm its an ice storm

its freezing and instead of snow you get rain that freezes when it lands on objects so it builds up on powerlines and more importantly trees
so the trees crush under the weight of the ice and fall on power lines

there have been several houses in this area crushed by falling trees and cars crushed also we had an ambulance crash and burst into flames because of the roads that were for 2 days quite literally a sheet of ice
 
but usually those kV land powerlines are quite high up and no trees close enough to actually fall on them but well maybe it is possible.

Since I have heard this " I have no power" quite often here, it seemed to be something common. Dunno last time I experienced a power failure must have been when I was a kid and no longer than a few minutes. So maybe I just cant imagine how it would be without power...

especially for more than some short moments - how should I cook, light, heat damn that would suck
 
Watch out for the ice when it starts melting. There have been several cases here of windshields being shattered by ice falling off of overpasses, power lines, ice flying off cars in front of them, etc.
 
wow no generator? heh if i lived in snowy areas i'd probably try to get one. i do wonder how much gas would be required to run my pc for 24 hours though.
 
Here are my snow pics Linky. Ice definately sux. Haven't lost power this winter here for long (about 2 hours) but not far from here they were without power for 4 days :Q (Over the Christmas/New Years Holiday week :Q :Q! )
 
I can sympathesize with the power loss as we lost ours for 15 days in our big ice storm up here 5 years ago. It was a double ice storm and the bush still shows the damage but we didn't have as much snow.

Made me glad I hadn't gotten rid of the wood stove!

We've had a cold but dry winter up here, more like a winter further north.

Yeah we lost our s for 14 days in '98. That sucked, but I just went into the city to stay at relatives 😛
BTW blackhawk, is that Vankleek, as in Vankleek Hill?
