OK long story... I recenly purchased a new P4 1.6a setup to replace my KT7A-RAID and 1Ghz Tbird. I sold my old mobo, cpu, and RAM, so i boxed it up to ship out ASAP and figured I would put in my old celeron 600 setup until all the parts for my new box come in.

When i put the motherboard/celly600/256MB SDRAM in along with my Radeon 8500, sound card, and NIC the computer would not POST. I would get 1 long beep followed by 3 short ones, and nothing showing up on the monitor. When i took out the Radeon and put in my old GeForce2MX, it booted fine (well except for the win2k inaccessible boot device error I got, but i'm going to reformat anyway so not worried about that, just reinstalled 2k on another partiton for now).

Any ideas what could have caused such a thing? The mobo is a Gigabyte GA-6BX7

One long beep followed by three short beeps = Video card not found or video card memory bad.

Did you try reseating the Radeon?

Might want to try clearing CMOS as well.

FYI when switching video cards, especially with diff manuf, reformat and reinstall is the best way to ensure a good installation.

With the 8500, be sure to turn off any BIOS shadowing and fastwrites.
