Hullo folks,
Here's the system:
DFI NF4 Lanparty Ultra-D
AMD 3700+
Powercolor x1900xtx
2GB Team XTreme DDDR
WD 250Gb HDD
FSP Blue Storm 500w psu
Couple of days ago came home from uni and found my comp off (I had left it running)
Hitting the power button did nothing. Suspecting power issues I removed the power cord, waited a while, came back and plugged it back in. Flick the power button again and voila, lights come on, fans start spinning hdd makes searching noises etc. But no display.
Power button would not turn off the machine, had to actually turn off the psu.
Opened her up, repeated procedure, watched the diagnostic lights on the motherboard. All four stayed on (meaning power applied, looking for cpu).
Both LED's on the x1900xtx were lit (ext_power and t_fail).
Noticed high whining noises coming from the psu, testing voltages showed no problems but I replaced it with a Corsair 620 HX anyway. Same result as above.
Cleared CMOS (removed battery changed jumpers waited for a while), and turned on the internal speaker looking for beep codes (Ultra-d defaults to speaker off)
Didn't get any.
Removed motherboard from case, removed all but 1 stick of ram, cpu, psu, gpu, and tried again, still no post, no beeps, diagnostic LEDs saying the same thing.
Replaced cpu with an opteron 170 that was around, same situation as above. Removed cpu fan (left it plugged in but removed it from the heatsink) Heatskink did not get warm over ~ 2 minutes leaving the comp running.
Conclusion: Dead motherboard.
Thoughts? I've been at this sorta thing for a while and usually I'd be fairly sure it was the m/b but I've never had a DFI die on me, and I can't see anything physically wrong with it (bad caps etc)
I don't have a spare s939 mb lying around atm that I can test things with unfortunately.
Warranty on the mb ran out 2 moths ago
Cheers for reading (I know it's a tad long) and I'd value any comments/thoughts.
Jay
