No POST on Newly Built System

I recently put together a new system for a friend. I have put systems together before, and never had any issues. This time however, the system seems to give no output to the monitor. I have everything hooked up, and all the fans/LEDs power up with no problem. There is simply no indication on the monitor whatsoever that the system is powering on.

At first I thought it was a MOBO issue. So I RMAed the MOBO to Newegg. But a new board has not alleviated the problem. I have tried using different monitors and different video cards, so I believe I can rule both of those as a problem. Everything I've read says that I am now left with either a defective CPU or PSU.

So I intend to call Newegg tomorrow and see about getting one or both of them RMAed. However, I thought I would post here and see if I can get any suggestions on possible troubleshooting steps. My components are as follows:

Mobo - Intel BOXD975XBX2KR LGA 775 Intel 975X ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail

Vid Card - EVGA 768-P2-N831-AR GeForce 8800GTX 768MB 384-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 HDCP - Retail

PSU - CORSAIR CMPSU-620HX ATX12V v2.2 and EPS12V 2.91 620W Power Supply 100

CPU - Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 Conroe 3.0GHz 4M shared L2 Cache LGA 775 Processor

RAM - Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory

Monitor - SAMSUNG 226BW Black 22" 2 ms (GTG) DVI Widescreen LCD Monitor 300 cd/m2 700:1(DC 3000:1)

Is there any reason why these parts should not be playing well together? Is there anything else I can try to troubleshoot before sending those parts back? I have tried resetting the CMOS, but that did nothing either. Any suggestions would be greatly welcome. Thank you.

Try a different DVI or VGA cable, and then a different monitor.

Check with the LCD manual if you have to choose DVI or VGA mode manually.

And try booting with only 1 memory stick. If one doesn't work, try the other one.

Good luck!

im no computer expert but I'm having the same problem and a lot of people have told me it should be a memory problem. try booting the card with some lower voltage memory (1.8v). you're using the same ram as myself.

Try a different DVI or VGA cable, and then a different monitor.

I have tried swapping out monitors and testing the system on a good monitor that I know works. It's an old dell monitor, so I used the DVI -> VGA adapter that came with the Video card. The new monitor also failed to display anything.

I have tried different RAM configurations, but nothing seemed to help. Plus, I tried booting the system with no RAM installed to see if the MOBO picked up on that fact. With no RAM in the system, the board gave the appropriate beep codes to indicate a lack of RAM. So I assumed that it would continue to do so if the RAM I have installed was not working.

Anyway, thanks for the suggestions. I will continue to troubleshoot, and may go ahead with returning the PSU/CPU to see if either of those were the issue. Thanks.

have you tried booting with a stick rated at 1.8 though? trying different configurations with our ram which is rated at 2.2 isn't the same thing.

I have not yet tried different RAM, I will do that next time I am there.

Also, there are no beep codes whatsoever. Everything seems to boot up ok.

I'm having the same problem as you (and MANY others).

I've done system builds for the past 10 years, and this is the FIRST one to ever give me problems.

Q6600
eVGA 650i mobo
2GB 1.8v Ram (PC2 6400) DDR2
eVGA 8800GTS 320mb
500w Coolmax CP-500T PSU

I've replaced the motherboard already, nothing changed. I'm waiting for a replacement PSU. I returned the 500w Coolmax, and waiting for an OCZ 700w.

Hopefully that'll solve it. If it doesn't, then I'll warranty the CPU in, and exchange the RAM.

Searching the internet, i found TONS of "Powers on, but no post" threads. Just about every single one of them had one thing in common... LGA 775 socket. What a pain.

Maybe a stupid question, but check the voltage selector on the back on the PS.......easy enough to check, and easy enough NOT to check.....lol

I had a similiar problem and the mobo turned out to be the issue (check for a thread in here started by a user named Lower for the details). In that same thread was a very helpful post about how to check if the PSU was good or not. It involves just shorting the green wire to any of the blacks on the 24 pin connector and seeing if the PSU turns on when you give it power. Hope this helps.
