Suddenly it quit working.
No beeps at boot up.
Motherboard still lights up. Fans whir. No video signal.

DFI LANPARTY DK P35-T2RS LGA 775
OCZGXS600 600W power supply.
Q6600 CPU (good stepping)

About 7 years old I suppose.

Took out all memory.
Disconnected all drives.

Still no beep.

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

What are the percentages that it is the,

CPU
Motherboard
Powersupply
Other

I don't know how to check them.
Would Fry's electronics test things like this for low cost?

So, is it worth taking a shot with one of these items?

Thanks.

Just to clarify, have you had this pc since new or did you buy it from someone?

If the latter, has it worked since you got it?

Motherboard. did you try to clear cmos.
That's what it sounds like. Hey I have the exact mobo that I literally just retired a Q6600 running 3.6GHz all these years with. It can be a finicky mobo just like all the DFI's but great when they work right. So beyond CMOS and leaving the battery out for a while, I would try a different PSU, check the ATX, +12, and berg connectors. Regrease the northbridge chipset and dust off the board. I did see somebody's system a while back that was dusty and caught in a bunny was a metallic flake just large enough to cause an apparent short.

Thanks for your thoughts guys.

I did clear the CMOS and took the battery out for a while.

I just don't have spare parts or equipment to run any tests.

I got a gigabyte ga s3g p35 motherboard.

Now, with the memory out, I get constant short beeps.

With the memory in I get no beeps.

No matter the slot of memory tried and no matter the(2gb) memory stick I use.

What does this point to?

Thanks :)

If you have a voltmeter, there are several videos on Youtube which show how to check a power supply.

Sounds similar to issue I was just having as well. No POST beeps, no video, but case fans would spin up, CD drive would open/close, and PSU fan was spinning as well. I did video card, CPU, CPU/motherboard combo, finally power supply was the issue. Swapped in a new PSU and back in business.

oh and it was an OCZ modxstream 600W PSU as well.

If both sticks are good then you more than likely have a bad memory controller.

Check volts on power supply, and check for bulging/busted caps, at that age its likely they are leaking. The tops of capacitors should be flat, if there is any hump to them they are going bad and not giving clean power which can cause issues like this. For some pics of what they look like check http://www.badcaps.net/
