No plans to release 7800GS says Nvidia PR

thats a shame......was looking like a excelllent mid range G70 solution

"NVIDIA will be happy to swap this out for a GeForce 7800 GT PCI Express board, or a GeForce 6800 GS PCI Express board, as these two boards are commercially available.."

sounds good.....free upgrade if your lucky, free down grade if your not

Objectively... why would nVidia need to release a 7800GS at this point? At best, they'd be canabalizing their own sales. They're no-doubt confident that the 6800gs can hold down the fort in the mid-range market for at least the time being. The "we have no plans" comment is just that: marketspeak. What these developer cards mean is that the 7800gs is ready or is nearly ready to be released if and when ATI releases a midrange card that dominates the 6800gs.

It didnt look that great to begin with. Plus, like mentioned before, they would have been killing off either the 6800GS or the 7800GT.

7800GS was far enough ahead of the 6800GS to warrant a $50 upgrade and it compared close enough to a 7800GT to not spend the extra $50 and get a 7800GT.

From hkepc:

"Will receive the OEM merchant the news, nVidia can promote Geforce the 7800GS model the indicator, but temporarily only will be able to supply the OEM market, but will not remove can publicize in the future to the market sells. Geforce 7800GS is based on the G70 overhead construction, when actually only has 16 Pixel the Shader assembly line and 6 Vertex the Shader engine, the core the arteries are 375MHz, the memory body aspect are the 256Bit memory body frequency are wide, when 256MB capacity the arteries are 1GHz, temporarily had not known 7800GS will be the primary 24 assembly lines or has been used by screen my 8 brand-new primary 16 Pixel Shader the chip, the Geforce 7800GS potency may replace Geforce 6800Ultra and Geforce 6800GT. Moreover, Geforce 7800GS also can promote the AGP edition, but actually is not the primary AGP core, similarly uses BR02 to meet the bridge to change AGP by PCI-E, but the side principle and the NV45 core are same, seals the cartography chip and the core in the same place, temporarily did not have a more exhaustive material."

Was never really excited about the 7800GS to begin with. The 7800GT is already hitting the $290 range and is already in the same price niche as the 6800GT. Once the next gen hits, the 6800GS should drop a niche to $150 replacing the 6600GT while the 7800GT may replace the 6800 GS for the $220-$250 range. Throwing a 7800GS into the mix to make a niche between these would probably keep the price on the 7800GT higher then it should be just to justify the card to begin with.

Remember, January is the date of release for the R580 and so NVIDIA should also be rushing next gen real soon too. All prices will be bumped down a level in about a month and a half.

if they did release it, it would be a $250 card...might as well get a 6800gs for 10 frames worse or $50 more for 10 frames more.

I'd laugh if someone took the 6800gs over the 7800gt...

Meh... They also said there wouldnt be an ultra. Watch them release it under a different name when the competition pressure builds up, they might call it the 7800xt, or 7800gt. Hell, lets just call it the 7800gts-r, that would make it sound like a real fast one!

ha!, that would be nice, just change the name a release it any way🙂. it think that it sucks that NV decided not to go with the 7800gs. i'm sure it caught a lot of peoples attention when it was first announced here on AT, and i was definetly looking forward to it🙁

Darn, there goes my upgrade next year (since my budget is constrained at $300 Can. for every two years🙁) Guess I'll pool together the money and wait till R600 or G80 shows up so I can buy a high-end card.
