No Performance Improvement with New 8800GT SLI Setup

I recently sold my 8800GTX and got 2 eVGA 8800GTs (superclocked). I first tried a couple tests including 3DMark06 and Crysis without SLI enabled. After enabling SLI, I only got a 1,000 point increase in 3DMark06. In Crysis, I am actually getting 1 FPS less with SLI enabled than before. How is this even possible?

I've confirmed that SLI is working by enabling the SLI visual indicators, and they do appear. I tried both the 169.21 WHQL drivers as well as the 174.74 Beta drivers with the same result. Now I know my CPU isn't a Core 2 Duo, so it's not the fastest thing on the planet, but an Athlon 64 X2 5600+ running at 1280x1024 should see some improvement.

Any ideas?

my idea is that you're CPU limited at such a low resolution. Your GPUs are bored.

Might be time to look for a nice new monitor?

You are correct- totally cpu limited at 12X10 with SLi.

You should not expect significant increases with SLI at lower resolutions. SLI only starts to come into it's own at 1680 x 1050 or higher.

Thanks for your responses. While I could see the low resolution being the issue, the results from this 8800GT SLI review suggests otherwise: FiringSquad

Although they don't show SLI results for Crysis for some reason, a good majority of the games show a considerable increase with SLI even at 1280x1024.

They are using a much faster CPU than you also. With your CPU you are CPU limited at that res, a faster CPU at that res would perform better. Just for referance I got 17509 in 3dmark06 with my 8800GT SLI setup.

Yeah just get a C2Duo E8400 and your problems will go away :) AMD cpu's are nothing compared to intel these days...

As other have said, the article you linked to shows them using a Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6800.
That makes a substantial difference. Even if it was a dual core.

Not really sarcasm, just blatant exaggeration of the point that his settings are really too low to require SLI.

Sleep is good. Finals finished yesterday and Im lazing in my old kiddie bedroom a couple weeks before I go out and get a job.
