No Pay Cut for Troops in Iraq, Afghanistan-Pentagon

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Moving to quash a political firestorm, the Pentagon on Thursday denied that it will cut the pay of nearly 160,000 U.S. troops in Iraq and Afghanistan by $225 on Sept. 30 when special military pay hikes approved by Congress are due to expire.
😀

Wait, I thought the Pentagon had no say in this, and it was all Congress? 😛

Seriously, I'm glad they get to keep their pay. God knows they need/deserve it. Too many families around here struggling to make ends meet on what they send home.

Oh gee, I guess the hypocrites are going to have to find something else to whine about now.
We'll breathlessly await your next reply to learn what that is.

You guys take yourselves way too seriously. When the tables were turned, you ripped us relentlessly for anything and everything you could twist into a lack of support for the troops or America. I take it you don't like being on the receiving end?

In any case, I think this is good news. I wish the troops weren't there in the first place, but since they are, they deserve the extra pay. Maybe this will encourage Bush to get them home more quickly.

You'll also note that the budget still does not say they want to renew the amendment that was passed in April. They're going to do it their way. As it should be.

Right on. Maybe the Pentagon actually reads AT 😉

or the Bush Regime has moles around here *COUGH*UQ*COUGH*charrison*COUGH*Michael*COUGH*Corn*COUGH*shinerburke*COUGH*

sorry for coughing, excuse me 😉 heh heh

The Pentagon isn't doing anything different than they were yesterday. All that has happened is that they've come out with a statement saying there will be no pay cut. The amendment that funded this pay increase still isn't in the DoD budget.

Without the "hypocrites" whining, there wouldn't be a political firestore and Pentagon wouldn't even bother looking at this matter. What are you sheeps doing to make the situation better?

Read the article carefully. Nothing has changed except the Pentagon has said there wouldn't a pay cut. The budget hasn't changed, the plan to pay those guys hasn't changed.

"We prefer other compensation powers to ensure that we target benefits on the troops serving in Iraq and Afghanistan," he added, citing incentive and other packages that the Pentagon is authorized to use.

Incentives and packages? Sounds like a contract for atheletes. "We'll give you a $75 signing bonus + $150 and a gold watch for meeting kill quotas and keeping your weight below 230lbs" 😀
