no original amd mb?

AMD chooses to license out manufacturing of chipsets and motherboards on a broad scale to allow a wide market range.

I think it's a smart idea - motherboard manufacturers know about making them, CPU makers don't. 😛

amd doesnt have as big of a production capacity as intel, and they dont want to waste their time and cash on other stuff. its smart.
 
Actually there have been AMD chipsets - the 760/761/762, etc. Some mobos are still based on them.

in fact, the AMD chipsets were very high performance chipsets for their time - I managed to get a AMD761 based mobo up to 180FSB from 133 - the only problem was no PCI lock and therefore lots of HDD corruption.
 
As it has been said, AMD used to make motherboards as well, chipsets included.. but they don't anymore. I don't see it as a problem though, I wouldn't buy either AMD nor Intel motherboards because they are ususally stable but rigid in features.
