No Operating system/No Primary Drive/No fixed disk present

I have a HP Pavilion 4533 amdk6-2 450mhz win98
Today I received the 2 PC100 128 SDRAM chips
and istalled them. When I restarted my computer
I got a message NO Operating system. Puzzled I
pulled them back out and restalled my old PC100
128 chip. Still No operation system. So I
started comparing my ram chip to the new ones.
The new chips have paper tag labeled PC100, but
the chip itself is labeled PC133. I used a boot
up disk and it said there was no Valid fat or
fat32. I then tried to restall my operation system
and I have no CD rom access. I even went into the
bios and changed the CD rom to first priority
still no CD rom, I also noticed in the bios
it showed none listed in the Primary drive.
I tried to format and got the message format not
supported, tried to fdisk got message No fixed disk present.
The last thing I did was check all plugs
and wires inside and out to make sure they were
tight. So my question is can anyone tell me
exactly what kind of damage these improperly
marked ram chips did to my system? Did it damage
my hard drive and new CD rom/writer? Thanks, Suzie

did you clear the CMOS?? and reset the BIOS

I think I remembered you take out the battery for a few minutes
which I did and reinstalled NO Change : ( Again I rechecked all
the ribbons and connections.

hi,
clearing the cmos is usually acomplished by putting a jumper over a set of pins for a minute and then removing it. alternately you could unplug the pc and remove the battery for 10 minutes and short the terminals of the battery socket.
before you try anything. try unplugging and then reconnecting the ide cable to the hd. sometimes the connection gets intermittent with age/oxidation. does the disk spin up when you power it on? (you can hear it after you hit the power switch.
since you are able to reach the forums, you have access to another computer. can you take the hd out and try reading it on the computer that you are using? (setting it apropriately for master/slave). that would at least tell you if your disk is still alive.
i think that it must be a coincidence, new ram cant really damage a system that way that i know of. but it seems like every time i touch an old computer, something breaks, so i'm not too surprised.
try this and write back if you need more.
