Hello,
Tryin to help family fix a Dell Inspiron 8000 laptop. This system is running Win ME 😛 I start up the computer and this is exactly what happens:
1)Blue Dell screen comes up
2)Black screen comes up with the following:

EZ-BIOS: Initialization
EZ BIOS: Not controlling any drives. Unloading...
EZ-BIOS: Continuing Startup...


No Operating System_


It then stays at this screen no matter what key I press. Results are the same when i start with the Win ME boot disk or CD or both. I want to reformat anyway but I need to get past this screen. Any ideas? Thanks

-- Specs on this comp are not known but it is farely new and was bought as a Dell factory Refurb..Warranty is up as well
 
was someone trying to update the bios using the dell hdd method?
press F2 at the blue inspiron splash screen & see if the hdd is actually detected. if it's not then physically remove the hdd & reseat it.
 
Ok HDD is detected when i press F2 at the blue startup screen. As far as updating the bios I strongly doubt it. This is my moms computer and she just barely knows the basics. Is there anything i can do now that the HDD is detected?
 
Hi, No.1, hard drive failure . No.2 , Boot option set or changed in bios not having hhd0 in options . Put restore disk in and see if it tells you it has found windoz installed , with it warning you . No.3 Pull hard drive carrier out and reset in laptop , possible bad contact in interface . Last get rid of ME . Use XP or WIN2K , even 98 se. if hardware are not compatible with XP or WIN2K
 
Alright I entered the BIOS and noticed that nothing was selected as a boot device other than the HDD as the first boot device. "Nothing" was selected as the second or third boot device. I tried pressing the arrow keys to select CD or floppy so the boot disk could load but i couldnt change it. I tried pretty much every button on the keyboard and nothing would change it. Am i missing some kind of combination of keys to change the nothing to floppy or CD drive? Hope that was clear 😀
