No one's selling A64 3200+ CH core.

Hey guys.. I just registered today, sort of a newbie. :)

I always got tons of information from AT forums, but I registered today because I noticed something weird while I was shopping for a new AMD64 3200+'.

PriceG*abber was showing the CPU as having 1MB L2 Cache, although clearly the listed malls were selling New Castle cored 64 3200+'s.

I called several malls, and one tech support person even told me, "We don't guarantee the core of the CPU - we just guarantee the model, and that's it."
I was trying to explain to him that there should (should?) be a price difference between the two cores.. hmm.

It was even more confusing because.. although the website didn't mention the name of the core, it clearly stated that the CPU should come with 1MB of L2 cache. But the mall was also selling that product - retail packaged - for about the same price as NewE*g's NC cored A64 3200+.

I'm not convinced that this mall is selling Claw Hammer core A64 3200+'s, and I didn't want to be hit up with the "NO REFUND - EXCHANGE FOR THE SAME ITEM ONLY" policy, after I find out the core is actually NC.

Is anybody even selling CH core A64 3200+'s anymore? If there is one - or more :) - could you guys enlighten me on it? I'd appreciate it. Or, if I have this whole CH is better than NC thing wrong, - and that could be the case - please let me know. (I know that there is a debate between NC 3400+'s and CH 3400+'s, but I wasn't quite sure about the case of 3200+'s.)

Clawhammer is discontinued in those models. I'd look at the A64 Mobile DTR chips if you're looking for a big cache and overclockability

The NewCastles are a bit faster usually.

However, it really is not a big difference.

Just get the cheapest one; you'll be flying either way.

Clockspeed wins over L2 cache with the socket 754 anyway.

Again though, the difference is very marginal.

Check the CPU area for threads comparing the two.

I may be mistaken on this, but i've heard the NewCastles OC a bit better too. I've also heard vice versa though, so i'm not entirely sure.
