No One Lives Forever

Annoying? I don't think so. General hardware coversmany things, nothing specific.Thats why its GENERAL.

dah! I didn't mean this to take flames! I want people to tell me how good it is! someone with a fast connection please try it!

Well, I want to say thanks for posting this. I've been waiting for this game forever and if you didn't post in the GH section, I would've missed it. ;-)

Eh, seems decent. From playing the demo through it isn't something I'd actually buy though. I mean they tout it as a spy type game but it really seems much too FPSish. Deus Ex does a much better job with the whole stealh and gadgets thing (played that demo too, and I'm actually going to buy it).

It just doesn't hit me as anything special. As far as looks go the textures are good, but thats about all that seemed above average to me. The dialogue that you overhear can be pretty funny (like a thug arguing with a local man who's trying to sell him a monkey he doesn't want). No matter how I fiddled with the controls it just never seemed comfortable...like running, aiming, strafing, and just plain sneaking about. It uses your typical mission objective kinda system, but it's way too strict about it...theres basically one way to do things (well, 2 I guess, you can do the boring objectives without being detected or with a big alarm blaring and all the enemies running straight at you despite you hiding) and it's very cut and dry/boring. If you haven't tried Deus Ex yet I'd try that as it goes about everything in a much better way (albeit without the cheesy Austin Powers wannabe style 😉).

That enough info yet? or do you want something more speciffic?

ahh ok thanks for the info about the game.. I understand why you don't like it. I haven't tried it myself yet though.

now how well did it run? do you think it would run on my old K6-2 400 with Voodoo 3 overclocked to 183mhz, Aureal Vortex 2 Superquad Digital, and 96 megs PC100 SDRAM?

Man i read this thread title and i thought some member or someone famous died or something, damn deceiving eh.

LOL, ReMeDy 😀

Demo reminds me of Blood2 somehow.Nothing special.
LithTech2 engine still cant make curved surfaces.
Octagonal coin looks funny after Q3 goodness.

I'll wait for 'The World Is Not Enough'.

I don't know if its just me... but walking around in the game feels very 'stiff' - not smooth like quake or unreal engine games. I think the frames per sec could also use some tweaking, as it doesn't run all that good on my Tbird 800 and voodoo5! Of course it only a tech demo, meaning i bet its only running at 50% of the speed it should be. At least i hope so!

I haven't tried it yet, but will next week. What I did try and am having a ball with is Serious Sam. Did anyone get this one? Not much on story, but LOTS of goons to shoot. Big open well lit maps. Not the typical dark castle type game. Lots of fun.

Picked up on Serious Sam shortly after they first released the test. It's a great arcade style shooter...they come right out and say what it is and deliver just that. AI? hell no, they all shoot you from afar or come swarming straight at ya. Plot? sure, about as much as a porno flick. The weapons are good, the engine is great (the tech demo shows off some nice effects that they don't really take advantage of throughout the test), and the control is spot on.

Looking forward very much to this one.

S-L-O-W! I get less than 15FPS worst-case framerate, sometimes even in empty corridors inside office complexes. STrangest thing is that setting resolution to 640x480x16 and low texture detail does nothing to improve framerate. Playing brings back memories when I had a TNT1 + K6/2-300 and I was playing Shogo (Lithtech 1.0 engine). It was a great game like NOLF, but ran slow as hell in seemingly simple levels. Of course, framerate of Shogo was better and I played it at 1024x768.

My current system is an Athlon Tbird 800mhz + GeForce SDR (140/200mhz). It's not a D3D configuration thing, 3dmarks give score of over 4900 (among highest for a GF SDR system) and I play dreaded Deus Ex at 1024x768/32bit without performance issues.
